LUWEZHI ARTIST

BIO
Luwezhi was born in Zambia and spent most of her childhood there before moving to the UK to attend secondary school. She has a BA Hons in Fashion design from the University of Falmouth and spent the following years after university working in the fashion sector.
She made a choice in 2021 to primarily focus on building an art career after finding herself feeling lost in the fashion industry, she was keen to find her love for art again and find a medium in which she can explore, experiment and express herself more creatively.
She is currently working out of her home studio in Northern Ireland and starting a new series of small to mid scale paintings.
STATEMENT
My art explores colour, shape and movement. I believe these elements culminate to capture the playfulness of childhood, the joys of risk taking and freedom from societal pressures.
The work covers existential themes; the influx of vast amounts of information intertwined with positive and negative thoughts which can overwhelm us and trigger internal chaos. The art also speaks on the theme of control and our desire as humans to maintain safety within boundaries which can suppress our growth and prevent us from achieving our full potential.
I am passionate about expressing these ideas through abstract paintings that not only evoke emotion through vibrant colours and lively shapes, but also draw the observer into the depths of the work as they find meaning reflected in their conscious.
